Based on Psalm 118:22–24, this triumphant anthem celebrates the risen Christ as the Conquering King and Chief Cornerstone. Tracing the redemptive arc from Calvary to resurrection, the text and music combine to declare the victory of grace with strength and joy. A powerful and worshipful selection for Easter or any service proclaiming the gospel, it rejoices in the day the Lord has made—and the salvation He has won.
The agony that Jesus Christ endured on Calvary’s cross is beyond comprehension and yet absolutely essential for God's redemptive plan. Isaiah foretold His suffering, describing Christ as “despised and rejected...a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief” (Is. 53:3). Though Christ’s crucifixion is marked by unimaginable pain, it is a moment of unmatched beauty, for it was there that Jesus fully satisfied the just judgment of God. This is why the apostle Paul declares in Galatians 6:14 that he will boast in nothing but the cross of Christ. Paul was unashamed of the cross, and this choral collection echoes that same boldness. These songs call God’s people to lay aside worldly pride and self-reliance, and glory in the cross of Christ alone.
